First Full Weekend in Dease Lake
Its saturday morning - our first full saturday in our new home and community. Looking out the windown the snow is falling again but doesnt really seem to be accumulating. I have a feeling that most of the winter will be like this, snowing all the time but no real build up.

This weekend will be mostly unpacking, laundry, cleanup and all the stuff we've been putting off over the past week. Today we will also venture out on our first trip to the dump! No garbage pickup here in Dease Lake, have to take care of it all ourselves. Not a big deal, the dump is close, and its free - besides, what else are we gonna do, need to fill our time with something.

Last night Lyndsay and I supervised the school halloween dance for an hour or so. Was strange being in a school as a supervisor. Its funny, the kids here in Dease Lake are exactly like kids everywhere else. One of the kids was dressed up as a ganster and even brought a gun! Of course the principal took it away, but still - you wouldnt see that in Victoria.

After the dance we went out to the bar - it was pretty quiet, and we were extremely tired, so we sat down, had a single drink each, met the bartender, and came home to bed. Nice little bar, I'm sure we'll be spending quite a bit of time there over the winter. Tonight is a dance/halloween part at the community hall. We'll go check it out, meet some people and have some drinks, should be fun. I'll have to break out my old Mummy costume out of storage - hope it still fits!

The First Dease Lake Blog Post
Well here we are. We've packed up everything and moved on to Dease Lake. Lyndsay was offered a teaching position, I have the ability to work for StepForth from home, and here we are.

When we first found out we would be moving here the first thing we did was start looking for information about Dease Lake. It took some time, and was very difficult to find exactly what we were looking for. Seeing as how my career has me imersed in the world of the internet, it only made sense that Lyndsay and I create a site devoted to Dease Lake, and provide as much information as possible.

If you are reading this post on or around the day it is actually being written, you'll notice that this site has little to no information on it as of yet. My goal is to have a comprehensive guide to Dease Lake by Christmas. We'll see how that goes.

All I can say is keep checking back - I plan to use this blog to record anything I find of interest here in Dease Lake, and just keep track of my experience living up in the North.

This will be my first "real" winter. The coldest I think I have ever felt before moving here was around -5C, a far cry from the potential -45 Dease Lake sees on occasion. Already in our first week here I have encountered 10 below, didnt seem that bad...

So far my general impression of Dease Lake is a good one. The people here are simply amazing. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and has welcomed us with open arms into the community. The general feel of this town is much more inviting than that of Victoria. When we pulled the UHAUL into the driveway the neighbors came out and welcomed us and helped unload the truck. During the 4 moves I had in Victoria, never had that happened. I think its a sign that we are really going to like it here.
