Big Bucks for Cancer
Recently Dease Lake School held a head shave to raise money for cancer research. Mr. MacDonald (or McDonald - Sorry, not sure of your spelling) asked me if I was interested in taking part. I instantly agreed, (I really had little hair to begin with but thought why not!) Turns out there is a big difference between little hair and no hair! I normally clip my hair with a #3 guard, so it's short, but not gone. After this head shave, it was really gone. Not the first time for me - I have "bic'ed" my head a few times before, but it had been a while. - Anyways, I am rambling...

The head shave took place last Friday and the school / community managed to raise in excess of $1,000!! Now for anyone living in a big city, $1,000 doesn't sound like much, but you have to realize that the population of Dease Lake is only around 400, so $1,000 works out to roughly $2.50 on average, per resident, which is huge. For comparison sake, the population of the Greater Victoria Region is roughly 400,000. That is the equivalent of the people of Victoria raising more than $1,000,000.

In 2005 Cops for Cancer, in the Vancouver Island Region (Tour de Rock), raised $1,450,000. The approximate population of Vancouver Island is around 700,000. Thats an average of just over $2 per person. - In other words, way to go Dease Lake! For a population of only 400 or so, earning more than $1,000 is incredible! - Good Job!
